Brandon & John’s Wedding at The Inn at Mount Pleasant in Torrington, CT

I had the great pleasure of capturing John and Brandon’s gorgeous barn wedding this fall and getting to know the lovely couple! Brandon and John met online in 2016. From their initial messages, the conversation flowed smoothly and they set up a casual first date at Starbucks to get to know each other better. The sparks were flying after their first meetings and they soon made it official! Four years, one puppy adoption and many exciting trips and adventures later, they got engaged on a cruise!

Brandon and John reached out to me for wedding photography because they loved the authenticity of my work and wanted that reflected in their own photos. When we met for the first time, I could tell they were a fun-loving and affectionate couple, and we had a great time getting to know each other and exploring their vision for wedding photography. By our second meeting, they knew that we were a perfect fit to work together and booked me right away! We got right to planning for their wedding. I sent them a wedding day worksheet to fill out with their photography shot list and timeline so I knew exactly which shots they wanted and at what point in the day!

Fast forward to their big day, their mid-October wedding morning dawned bright and beautiful over the gorgeous Inn at Mount Pleasant in Torrington. We started the day off with some groom prep photos on the front porch of the inn. Brandon and John got ready together, which is a really sweet alternative to the tradition of getting dressed separately on your wedding day! This pair does everything together, and didn’t see why they couldn’t get ready together either. After taking a few photos of their rings, invitations and other details, I grabbed a few cute shots of the two tying their ties, helping each other get into their jackets and attaching their cufflinks.

After prep photos, we headed off in the pickup truck to the beautiful grounds for formal photos! John and Brandon brought their adorable dog and we spent a fun half hour wandering around the fields and hills for photos of the two of them and their fur baby. The mountains and fall foliage were so beautiful in the background. We headed back to the inn when we were done, and got ready for the ceremony, which was emotional and teary. Brandon and John were finally pronounced husband and husband, and walked triumphantly back down the aisle the the thunderous applause of their guests!

We found a nice barn wall by the reception area which perfectly complemented their photography vision for family and bridal party photos. Once we finished up photos, we headed to an outdoor cocktail hour flowing with drinks from a gorgeous vintage tap truck Brandon and John had hired!

The grooms made their grand entrance and had their first dance to start off the reception. Right before dinner, we managed to snag some gorgeous sunset photos in the dusk light. Dinner was served in the nearby heated tent where we also heard beautiful speeches from the best men! I loved Brandon and John’s fun rustic spin to the cake cutting ceremony — the cake was shaped like a birch log, and the cake knife was actually a real hatchet! The pair clearly had so much fun celebrating with each other and with all their friends and family on this day, and I was overjoyed to have been part of it!
